In 1916, R. H.Stearns patented his first magnetic separator, spurring the start of Stearns Magnetic Company.
In 1928, the company recognized the need to diversify and expanded their products to include DC Brakes and clutches. In 1935, the company pioneered the AC Motor Brake., These additional new product offerings led to the establishment of Stearns Electric Company. These products would go on to aid the industrial drive industry, allowing customers to become more versatile in their end user applications.
Continuing on the path of innovation, in 1953, Stearns introduced the first UL approved Brake for hazardous locations that insured safety by being explosion proof. As it became more apparent that the company could best service its customers and itself by concentrating on the manufacturing of electro-magnetic clutches and brakes, Stearns Electric Company sold its extensive line of magnetic equipment to devote full effort to manufacturing and further improving Stearns and brakes.
In 1973, Stearns introduced the first effective self adjusting brake, still in operation in 2016.
Seeing an opportunity to offer a reliable long life solution to replace mechanical switches, Stearns introduced the SINPAC line of Solid State motor start switches in 1986. While the new millennium did not produce new products, Stearns worked hard to continue to set industry standards, and maintained focus on quality by establishing their ISO certification.
In 2007 Stearns, always thinking of the customer and safety, introduced the first MSHA approved brake for the mining industry.
At Stearns we know that high quality and reliability is standard in this industry. But what sets us apart is our dedicated work force. This company’s growth and progress has been built on the loyalty, dedication and ability of our people. We’ve stayed true to our roots, remaining at home in Milwaukee, WI. Stearns is dedicated to continuously improving our processes to ensure that we will continue to set the standard for excellence – for another 100 years and beyond!
In most industrial systems, engineers focus on what happens when
machines are running. But the real question is: what happens when power
is lost?
Does the system stop safely? Does the load stay in place? Or does everything start moving uncontrollably?
That’s exactly why industries searching for Stearns brakes in Dubai, UAE, Saudi Arabia, KSA, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait are usually solving a deeper problem: fail-safe control.
Stearns specializes in spring-set motor brakes and clutch systems designed to stop and hold machinery automatically—especially during power failure situations.
In many machines, stopping is not enough. You also need to hold the load in place.
Think about:
If power is cut and there’s no fail-safe system:
This is where Stearns solutions become critical.
Stearns brakes are built around a simple but powerful principle: brake engages automatically when power is OFF.
These are called spring-set (fail-safe) brakes:
This ensures that machines stop and hold position without needing any external control.
This is why they are widely used in safety-critical applications
Not all braking systems do the same job. Stearns solutions are designed for both:
Spring-set disc brakes convert motion energy into heat during stopping and then maintain holding force without power.
This dual function is essential in elevators, hoists, and material handling systems.
If you're sourcing Stearns brakes in Dubai, you're likely dealing with equipment that runs continuously.
Typical applications include:
In these environments, Stearns brakes provide instant stopping when power drops, reliable holding under load, and consistent performance over repeated cycles.
The demand for Stearns in UAE is strongly linked to motor-mounted braking systems.
Stearns brakes are often:
Their NEMA C-face mounting design allows direct installation without complex alignment, simplifying both installation and maintenance.
For companies searching Stearns in Saudi Arabia or Stearns in KSA, applications are typically heavy-duty.
Common use cases include:
In these environments, Stearns brakes help prevent rollback, hold loads securely, and ensure safe shutdown during failures.
In Oman and Qatar, many systems operate for long hours without interruption, creating a need for automatic safety mechanisms.
Stearns solutions:
This makes them ideal for pumps, compressors, processing systems, and marine applications.
In Bahrain and Kuwait, industries often look for simple but reliable systems.
Stearns brakes provide:
They deliver mechanical safety without complex electronics.
Instead of isolated components, Stearns products work as a complete system:
Stearns solutions are widely used across industries such as:
What makes Stearns different is its automatic response.
No manual braking. No delay. No external trigger.
Just a system that stops instantly when power is lost, holds the load securely, and protects both equipment and operators.
Most systems are designed to run. Very few are designed to fail safely.
Whether you're sourcing Stearns brakes in Dubai, managing systems in the UAE, or operating heavy machinery across Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, or Kuwait—the real question is: when power goes off, is your system still under control?
Stearns ensures that the answer is always yes.
